“The 19 years old Robert Steinhäuser shot 16 people and then himself. According to newest insights of the police the deed was obviously planned. “Witnesses reported that he had informed special people not to go to school on this day”, Erfurt´s leading police director Rainer Grube said on Monday in the “ZDF-Morning-Magazine”. There were also other evidences, Grube said.
Steinhäuser intensively concerned himself with weapons and with killing. In the room of this amok running schoolchild computer and video games were found, glorifying violence, all of which could be bought freely though. Furthermore the police thinks, that the amok shooter did not act at random, but shot teachers on purpose.

According to the investigations, the 19 year old went along the halls and opened the doors to the class-rooms.
If teachers were present, he shot them. Otherwise he closed the door and went on. The two schoolchildren were assumedly shot unintentionally, as was reported later.

Family did not sense anything of his double life

One year ago Steinhäuser had not passed the A-level exams and it would also have not been possible for him to repeat them, because a few weeks ago, he was repelled from the school because of forging a document. High school pupils in the State of Thuringia do not get any school leaving certificate whatsoever, if they do not pass the A-level exams.
However, the family did not know, that he had been repelled from school and still on Friday morning assumed, that their son would take part in the exams.
Therefore, on that day his construct of lies would have had to collapse, said the Secretary of State for Inner Affairs, Manfred Scherer. According to the police, Robert Steinhäuser lived in a well-ordered family back-ground. But in his room they found comics, computer games and other materials, which let conclude, that he had an “inclination for glorifying war and violence”. His mother explained that “she had not noticed any anomalies with her son.”
